Funny Cockatiel Story

I came home, tired, wanting to relax. Our dog wanted to play. The problem was he had gotten out and stayed beyond my reach. I’d run one way, and the dog would run the other way. For fifteen minutes, I tried to get that dog. Finally, I got a hold of him and didn’t let go. The dog yelped because he didn’t want to come inside.

We had a cockatiel. Or I should say we had a loud mouth bird that didn’t stay quiet. She would imitate all the irritating sounds in our house. Sounds like a creaking door or a steam kettle going off. Those kinds of sounds. Oh, yea and a yelping dog. For the next several days, the bird yelped like a dog every time I came into the room. I say several days because I don't know if the bird continued the irritating sound at her new owner’s home.

Pain

How do we help others in pain? Put on a smile and tell them everything is going to be okay? or Be there with the person, and cry with them.

The latter.

Personal Story:

Years ago, my wife and I went through a very painful time. We were in the final process of adopting two children. The agency called and told us they were sending the children to a different home, a close relative. They would remove the kids from our home within a couple of weeks.

Understand, we had been going through the process for several months, and these children were like our own kids. We were very bonded with them, and they with us.

We were devastated and went to our friends. They said things like, "Have faith. It'll be okay." and "If it's meant to be, it'll happen." Those words hurt. It was like our friends didn't hurt for us. I know they cared, but they unknowingly minimized our grief.

Then we met an elderly lady. I told her our story. She said nothing but instead cried with us. Those tears changed my life and began the healing.

The situation turned around and the new home didn't happen. A few months later we were able to adopt both children. They are both grown and we love them so much.

Stand by your friends when they experience pain. (It's okay to be silent.)

Lessons From Apollo 13

Apollo 13, the 3rd manned mission in the American Apollo space program to land on the Moon. Launched on April 11, 1970, at 13:13 CST from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida.

In the movie, Apollo 13, Ken Mattingly, the original man selected for the crew, was watching television late at night.

Tired he gets up and shuts off the TV. What he doesn't see is a special report of the spacecraft being damaged. He goes to bed.

Apollo 13 - damaged. 

This scene demonstrates that you can quit too soon and miss an important message. 

It's true Mattingly learned of the damaged Apollo spacecraft the next day, but not at the time it was reported. Is that important? I'd say yes. Timing is always important.

When you feel like giving up, stay tuned. A message may be coming in for you. A Word that could change your life.
