Raising a Modern-Day Princess
Pam Farrel & Doreen Hanna
A Jewish girl’s rite of passage is called a bat mitzvah.
Age of 12 she is paired with a women mentor
This mentor will stay with the 12 year old girl for 1 year training her in the ways of Jewish womanhood.
In preparation for her mitzvah, she memorizes a passage from the Torah
On her 13th birthday she celebrates her rite of passage.
She and her mother shop for equivalent to a wedding dress.
On her special day she stands in her synagogue and reveals her knowledge of the Torah by quoting a portion from memory.
She demonstrates her talent, expresses her future goals and states where she will share 10 percent of the gifts with the poor.
Climactic Moment: Her rabbi and father publicly bless her
The dinner after the ceremony is usually quite elaborate as many family and friends are invited to celebrate and many attend bring very generous gifts.
Inspiring to go Higher
