Home births have increased across the United States. But in
Nebraska the numbers of children born at home stays low because of a law making
it illegal for certified nurse midwives to assist in a home birth. Nebraska
joins with only one other state in this law, Alabama.
The fight is over the question: Who should control
childbirth – the mother or the medical system. Opponents of home birth say it’s
important that the mother give birth where she is comfortable and in control of
the moment.
Medical officials argue that the hospital is the place
should an unexpected complication occur.
Should women be given the choice where to have a baby?
