Operation Babylift

Near the end Vietnam war, 40 years ago, the shadow of the Viet Cong assault on Saigon loomed.
Families, specifically children became the topic of discussion in Washington.
Authorized by President Gerald Ford in April 1975 before the Viet Cong's assault, Operation Babylift saved thousands of children.
"Operation Babylift is one of the few great things to come from the Vietnam tragedy," says Lana Mae Noone. She adopted two Vietnamese children, one died of pneumonia traveling to the states. Lana became one of many parents who adopted Vietnamese children.
A picture shows children gazing out the plane's windows, probably the first time they'd seen the clouds from this view. What were they thinking? Were they afraid? Lonely? In shock?
Traveling from Viet Nam, home, to the U.S.A., a foreign land, they had anxiety and confusion, yet they had a new safe home.
"I'm happy to read something good  that came out of the Viet Nam war—children."
As I look at these pictures, I become emotional. They'll always have a special place in my heart. Hopefully one day, I'll find one of these children, now adults, and be able to talk to them.
