Signs you're living with an addict:

The addict will protect their lie at any cost. Turning the tables on anyone, making them out to be the enemy. Even the ones who want to help. The victim of the addict's attack will question themselves, possibly think they are somehow to blame for the addict's behavior. Or, the victim will totally shut the addict out, making the addict's world even smaller.

Why?

The addict's body has gone into a survival mode at the altar of a drug that will eventually kill them. The addict worships the "high" and will do anything for that false god. I mean anything. They will talk about the "pain" they experience but in most cases, it won't be physical pain.

How to help?

Don't react. Don't fall into their trap. And, don't facilitate. Stay with the addict. Love their soul. Hate their actions. (Not because they are hurting you, but because they are hurting themselves.) Proverbs says to correct a fool is to make an enemy. Keep that verse close to you as you attempt to intervene.
